Relocating Pets Between Taiwan and Argentina

Argentina is one of the more relaxed long-haul destinations from Taiwan: no antibody test, no quarantine, and a certificate that stays valid for a full sixty days. What it does insist on is language — the certificate must be in Spanish, and a flawless English document is simply not the document SENASA asked for.

One corridor, two rulebooks

SENASA, Argentina's national food safety and animal health service, admits dogs and cats on an International Veterinary Certificate or a legalised official passport, valid for sixty days from issue or legalisation. Compared with Brazil's ten-day window that is enormous breathing room. The return leg into Taiwan is the demanding half of this corridor, as it is everywhere outside Taiwan's short designated list.

DirectionClassificationWhat it means in practice
Taiwan → Argentina Argentina (SENASA) admits pets on a Spanish-language veterinary certificate, without titer or quarantine An ISO microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days before entry and within the previous year, internal and external parasite treatment within 15 days before the certificate is issued, and a CVI in Spanish valid for 60 days.
Argentina → Taiwan Taiwan (APHIA) does not list Argentina as a designated rabies-free area Titer of at least 0.5 IU/mL sampled 90 days to 1 year before arrival, an e-permit at least 20 days ahead, and 7 days of post-entry quarantine unless the 180-day and 120-day conditions are both met.

Corridor-specific requirements only — the universal basics (ISO chip before vaccine, IATA crate, live-animal flight space) are covered once on the Pet Travel Hub.

TPE → EZE: International Veterinary Certificate in Spanish Argentina SENASA One of the certificate's languages must be Spanish; valid 60 days from issue or legalisation, provided the rabies vaccination is still valid on the day of entry
TPE → EZE: ISO microchip Argentina SENASA 15-digit ISO 11784/11785 chip is the accepted identification
TPE → EZE: rabies vaccination Argentina SENASA At least 21 days before entry for a primary vaccination, and given no more than 1 year before travel
TPE → EZE: internal and external deworming Argentina SENASA Within 15 days before the health certificate is issued, using products approved by the origin country's veterinary authority
TPE → EZE: APHIA export endorsement Taiwan APHIA branch office The certificate is endorsed alongside the export inspection — see the Taiwan export guide
EZE → TPE: rabies titer ≥ 0.5 IU/mL Taiwan APHIA, via WOAH reference or designated labs Blood sampled 90 days to 1 year before arrival
EZE → TPE: APHIA e-permit and quarantine Taiwan APHIA e-permit portal At least 20 days ahead, or 120 days with a 180-day-old sample to waive the 7-day facility stay

Taiwan's APHIA runs dog and cat imports through its online e-permit portal, with document uploads validated against the microchip record. We re-verify the current protocol on both sides of this corridor for every booking.

The chronological timeline

Read this top to bottom: each step's validity depends on the one before it, which is why a late fix costs months rather than days.

  1. Plan the routing and the translation together T−4 months

    • Taipei to Buenos Aires is a two- or three-sector journey; confirm live-animal acceptance on each one before committing.
    • Establish early who will produce the Spanish-language certificate and how it will be endorsed — this is the item most likely to be improvised badly in the final week.
    • Taipei-bound instead? Start six months out for the titer.
  2. Chip and vaccinate T−3 months

    • ISO microchip, then the rabies vaccination at least 21 days before entry and within the past year.
    • Argentina does not require an antibody test, so the vaccination date is your only biological constraint outbound.
  3. File Taiwan-bound permits T−120 to T−20 days

    • APHIA e-permit at 120 days preserves the quarantine waiver; 20 days is the minimum without it.
    • Reserve the quarantine slot as part of the same application.
  4. Book uplift T−6 weeks

    • Long elapsed times are normal on this routing; the 60-day certificate absorbs delays that would destroy a Brazilian file.
    • Southern-hemisphere seasons are inverted — a January arrival in Buenos Aires is a summer arrival, with the embargoes that implies.
  5. Deworm, certify, endorse T−15 to T−7 days

    • Internal and external parasite treatment, then the certificate issued within 15 days of it, in Spanish, then the APHIA endorsement and export inspection.
    • Check the certificate against the chip number and the vaccination record character by character before it is endorsed.
  6. Fly and clear T−0

    • Arriving Argentina: SENASA checks documents and identity, and compliant pets are released without quarantine.
    • Arriving Taiwan: APHIA reconciliation, then home or the reserved facility.
The veterinary work is the easy part of an Argentine move. What fails is administrative: a certificate produced only in English or Chinese, a deworming date that falls outside the fifteen-day window, or a rabies vaccination that was valid when the certificate was issued and expires before the pet lands. SENASA's sixty-day validity is generous precisely because it expects the document itself to be correct — the window forgives delay, not errors.

Taiwan ⇄ Argentina: common questions

Does the Argentine certificate really have to be in Spanish?

Yes — one of the certificate's languages must be Spanish. A perfectly accurate English-only document is not the document SENASA requires, and this is the single most common reason a well-prepared file is questioned on arrival.

Does Argentina require a rabies titer test?

No. SENASA does not require rabies antibody test results. A rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before entry for a primary course, and no more than a year before travel, is what is checked.

How long is the certificate valid?

Sixty days from issue or legalisation, provided the rabies vaccination is still valid on the day your pet enters the country. That is unusually generous for a long-haul destination and takes most of the schedule risk out of the routing.

What is the deworming requirement?

Internal and external parasite treatment within 15 days before the health certificate is issued, using products approved by the veterinary authority in the country of origin, and recorded on the certificate.

Is there quarantine in Argentina?

No, not for pets that meet the import requirements. Documents and identity are checked on arrival and the animal continues with you.

Sixty days of grace, and one word that has to be right

Argentina gives you more schedule room than almost any long-haul destination we fly, and then quietly fails files over language and dates. Tell us your month and your city, and we will handle the certificate, the endorsement and the two-week treatment window while you deal with the rest of the move.
